For those who aren't very theatre savvy, the Tony Awards are kind of the American Broadway theatre equivalent of the Oscars. There are awards for best actors, songs in musicals, stage effects, etc.
This year, The Lost Boys Broadway musical (based on the 1987 vampire film) is nominated for twelve Tony awards. That's more than any other musical this year.
The Lost Boys seems to have broken the "Curse" that vampire themed musicals are doomed to fail on Broadway. The last vampire musical from this same production company (Warner Theatre) and performed at the same theatre (The Palace Theatre) was Lestat in 2006. I feel the Lestat musical would have been fine if they hadn't tampered with the version that was performed in San Francisco. Maybe just add the "Right before my eyes" song but leave all else the way it was in San Francisco, before they panicked at the mixed reviews and messed with it here in New York. Lestat deserves a revamped revival.
The Lost Boys (much like the Beetlejuice Broadway musical) deviates from the original source material a bit. For example, the grandfather character does not exist in The Lost Boys musical and David and his vampire gang are now vampire rock musicians. (Cough) Like Lestat (cough).
The Lost Boys is apparently doing fairly well as a 1980s themed rock operetta.
