Has anyone here heard tales of the faint, flickering lights that lure travelers off paths in the marshlands? These 'corpse candles' or will-o'-the-wisps feel like the very breath of the ancient earth, guiding or misguiding souls. They embody the mysterious energy that stirs in the damp, decaying places of the world during autumn. What do you think they truly are, lost spirits or just marsh gas playing tricks?

Corpse candles, or ignis fatuus, were often seen as the spirits of the unbaptized, luring the living to their doom in the bog. That eerie glow had a far more sinister meaning in ancient folklore, connecting directly to death.

It's wild how the glow of these lights can be both haunting and beautiful. They remind me of the fine line between life and death in folklore, like a dance between the realms. 🌌

Often they're really just fire flies or the soft glow of bioluminescence from breaking down vegetation (which why it's common in marshes and swamps) but sometimes, sometimes there is no explanation.
