Hi everyone! :)

what are you're opinions on Halloween books when it comes to Fiction vs. Non-fiction? There are a lot of great scary books out there that are good for reading for the good scare factor. But there are a lot of great books out there as well that talk about Halloween in general -- what is Halloween about, what do we do at Halloween and why, and so forth...

I tend to like a mix of both ... give me a good scare, but also give me a good read on what it's all about.

In general I prefer fiction except if it's the history of Halloween or supposedly true ghost stories or supernatural encounters. There's a book I've been meaning to check out that references all the times the Universal monsters have been depicted in animation.

For me, the non-fiction really captures the ancient pulse of Halloween, tracing its roots back to the harvest and the turning of the soil. Understanding those old traditions makes the season feel so much more alive.

There's something magical about fiction during Halloween, like diving into classic horror tales or new gothic novels. But non-fiction really shines when you uncover the eerie folklore and legends behind the traditions we celebrate. 🎃

that's part of why i posted this. I have a degree in folklore (those academic types like to sometimes say things like "folk studies" but i digress) ... so i love the season for what it is, but I also love the season for what it is, if you catch my meaning. i love both sides -- the scary, fun, traditional activities and such, but I also enjoy looking at the stuff behind what we do as well.
