I learned a new term this week that I absolutely love. It was only coined in 2011 so it was a good three years after I finished studying parapsychology.
It's paracryptozoology. It's where Cryptozoology (the study and search for hidden life) merges with parapsychology (The study and search for the paranormal).
Where some cryptids (hypothesized life) are easily Lazarus taxon (believed to be extinct but possibly returning), or relic species throw backs (lingering from a very endangered species) like the Loch Ness Monster (Nessie) or Champ (North American equivalent of Nessie) or even Big foot, other cryptids are actually more likely paracryptids like the so-called Black-Eyed children, Shadow People, Rougarou, or Jersey Devil.
Actually the majority of modern cryptozoology is probably truly paracryptozoology.
