This is a medieval cover of This is Halloween someone recorded.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYB05NpR6AE

It's purely instrumental so I've written some lyrics for it if anyone is interested.

Credit to Danny Elfman for the original song. Revamped lyrics by Amanda Pike. If you like the version of the lyrics I have written here, you may use them for any vocal accompaniment for the medieval version of This is Halloween.

I have chosen the title “This is Samhain” (Samhain pronounced as Sow-in) rather than “This is All Hallow’s Eve” because it fits the meter better.

Note: Beansidhe (or Bean Sidhe) is still pronounced Banshee. I was just going for original Gaelic spelling in there.

I tried to be respectful of actual pre-Christian Samhain beliefs and customs. So it’s not just tricks and scares (though that’s in there too).

I hope you like it.

This is Samhain

Lads and lasses of ev’ry age,
Would ye fancy wonders strange?
Come with us and ye will have seen
This our hamlet on Samhain.

This is Samhain, This is Samhain.
Turnip lanterns wail in darkest night.
This is Samhain, goblins haunt the ravine.
Scry and conjure 'til folk faint of fright.
In our village folks may start to keen
In this, our coven on Samhain.

‘Tis I, a Strigoi, hidden under thy bed.
Teeth pointed sharp and eyes dusk-red.

‘Tis I, a Familiar, tied by magick snare.
In geas I can’t break, bound in mage’s lair.

This is Samhain, This is Samhain.
Samhain, Samhain, Samhain, Samhain.

In this village we call home
Everybody hail to the lantern song.

In this village, don't we love it at present?
Everybody's waiting for the next wonderment.

Round that pyre, fellow, hiding by the bonfire.
Something's waiting now to pounce, and howl.

Thou may scream!

This is Samhain!

Crimson, black,
And putrid green.

Art thou scared?
Well, that's just grand.
Say it once, say it twice.
Praise The Goddess of the thrice.
Blessed by moon on the sacred night.

Everybody keen, everybody keen!

On the Sabbat of Samhain.

‘Tis I, the beast with wolf-like face.
Here in a dash and gone without a trace.

‘Tis I, the ‘who’ when thou callest, "Who's there?"

‘Tis I, the wind blowing through thy hair.

‘Tis I, the shadow on the moon at night.
Filling thy dreams to the brim with fright.

This is Samhain, this is Samhain.
Samhain, Samhain, Samhain, Samhain
Samhain, Samhain.

Tender lumplings with eyes abright. (Alternatively: “Alight”)
Life lacks mirth without a good fright.

‘Tis our purpose, but we're no blight.
In our hamlet of yon eerie delight.

In this village

Don't we love it at the present?
Everyone's waiting for a wonderment.

Wand’ring spectral Jack
Might catch you in the back
And wail like a beansidhe,
Make you jump out of your skin!
This is Samhain, everybody keen.

Won't ye please make way for a supreme fellow?

Our man, Jack, is king of the Haunted Wood.
Everyone, hail to the Nightmare King now!

This is Samhain, this is Samhain
Samhain, Samhain, Samhain, Samhain

In this village we call home
Everyone, hail to the lantern song.

La-la-la, la-la-la (La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la, Samhain, Samhain,)
La-la, la-la-la (La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la, Samhain, Samhain)
La-la, la-la-la (La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la, Samhain, Samhain)
La-la-la, wee (La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la)
