An apology to the movie Queen of the damned

Thanks to Maven of the Eventide I now realize what the thing is that has been nagging at the back of my mind since The Vampire Lestat (Interview with the vampire season 3) started.

It's nihilistic and cynical. All the Gothic romanticism has been stripped away for a cynical and bitter resentment. This version of Lestat is more whiny, broody, and self-destructive than he ever was in the books.

In the books Lestat was hopeful and optimistic and that was the secret to his ability to endure as an immortal. He loved that in the 1980s it seemed that human life mattered now more than ever (paraphrasing) but in this show he literally says the opposite, that human life has little to no value today.

He also talks about not wanting to return to New Orleans. Lestat was in love with New Orleans, despite everything bad that happened there, he considered it home, because everything good happened there too.

Though I love Sam Reid's acting and appearance, he's almost an anti-Lestat.

And so... After twenty-four-years I'd like to now apologize to Stewart Townsend. The hair may be different. He may have red innocent groupies instead of killers, and they may have changed who made him a vampire but... He's closer to Lestat than this writing. It's NOT Sam Reid's Fault, it's the writing.

But I owe Queen of the damned an apology...
